RESUMO

The effect of hydrocortisone (50 mg/kg body wt i.p.) under beta-adrenergic receptors blockade (four subcutaneous injections of propranolol in single dose of 5 mg/kg body wt with 3 h interval) on phagocytic activity and oxygen dependent microbicidal activity in NBT-test of peripheral blood phagocytic cells in male Wistar rats was investigated. It was established that hydrocortisone stimulated neutrophil phagocytic activity through 6, 24 and 48 h after hormone injection and decreased oxygen-dependent microbicidal activity of phagocytic cells in NBT-test. Hydrocortisone in vitro (500 ng/ml) decreased neutrophil phagocytic activity that indicated on realization of stimulating effect of hydrocortisone in vivo through complex of other indirect mechanisms. Administration of hydrocortisone led to depression of eosinophil phagocytosis and lesser decrease in monocyte phagocytic activity. Hydrocortisone effects were significantly modified under blockade of beta-adrenoceptors that indicated on its mediation by endogenous catecholamines through modulation of beta-adrenoceptor expression.

RESUMO

An analysis of surgical treatment of 142 patients with cancer of the colon and rectum included 32 emergency cases and 110 scheduled operations. Standard surgical methods only were used in 94 patients, the lymphotropic immunocorrection with myelopidum in the postoperative period was made in 48 patients. The use of lymphotropic immunocorrection was shown to considerably improve the immunological parameters and to decrease postoperative lethality.

RESUMO

Changes in the levels of natural antibodies in the lacrimal fluid, saliva, and blood immunoglobulin concentrations were studied in patients with ocular injuries, inflammatory (keratitis, scleritis, uveitis) and noninflammatory diseases of the eyes. These values can be used as additional parameters for the diagnosis and prediction of the treatment efficiency. The immune system functions as a universal system with different compartments, and therefore mathematical relationships between these parameters were studied. Positive linear regression and correlation relationships were detected between -log2 antibody titers in the serum and lacrimal fluid, antibody titers in the saliva and serum, and negative relationships between antibody titers in the lacrimal fluid and IgA concentration and between lacrimal antibody titers and IgA level.

RESUMO

Male CBA mice were used in experiments. Splenocytes were incubated for an hour in macrocultures with estradiol (E2) or progesterone (P), then the cells were transferred (together with the antigen) to lethally irradiated syngeneic recipients, and on day 4 the count of antibody-producing cells (APC) was estimated. Prostaglandin F2 alpha (PGF2 alpha) concentrations were radioimmunoassayed in cell culture supernatants. E2 and P concentrations corresponded to these hormones levels in blood sera during pregnancy. E2 and P in the tested concentrations were found to reliably stimulate the processes of APC formation, their effects being dose independent. Both E2 and P statistically reliably increased PGF2 alpha level in splenocyte culture. Fractionation of splenocytes helped reveal the highest PGF2 alpha level in the cultures devoid of adhesive cells and rich for T lymphocytes. Hence, E2 and P stimulated the processes of antigen-independent differentiation of splenocytes producing APC either by directly stimulating T lymphocytes or via macrophages by blocking their negative effects. Stimulation of adoptive immune response by sex steroids is closely connected with PGF2 alpha production by immunocompetent cells under the effects of these hormones.
